One of the most iconic modular furniture systems ever designed, the Royal System by Poul Cadovius transformed the way people thought about storage.
Designed in Denmark in the late 1940s, Cadovius believed furniture should be lifted from the floor and mounted on the wall, creating lighter, more flexible interiors. More than seventy years later, the Royal System remains one of the defining pieces of Scandinavian Modern design.
Crafted in beautifully figured Brazilian Rosewood, this original 1960s configuration offers an exceptional balance of display, concealed storage and workspace, making it equally suited to a living room, library, dining room or home office.
This complete system comprises:
- Floating four-drawer chest
- Glass display cabinet
- Drop-down cabinet, ideal as a drinks cabinet or concealed storage
- Two-door storage cabinet
- Three adjustable shelves
- Large bureau shelf, perfect as a desk or workspace
- Original wall-mounted uprights and brackets
One of the Royal System's greatest strengths is its modularity. Every cabinet and shelf can be repositioned, allowing the system to evolve as your needs change.
This example has been professionally cleaned, polished and sympathetically restored, preserving the warmth and character of the original timber while respecting its history. It presents beautifully, retaining the minor marks and small repairs expected of an authentic piece of this age.
A rare opportunity to own one of Denmark's most celebrated furniture designs in an exceptionally practical and highly desirable configuration.
