This is a very fine quality example of an excellent quality genuine antique French 19th century Secretaire a Abattant in the Ist Empire early 1800 manner and beautifully finished in book leaf matched ‘feathered’ Mahogany. Externally the cabinet features a grey marble top beautifully figured book leaf matched upper and lower front panels and full height turned free standing columns with classical gilt bronze capitols and complimentary gilt bronze rings at their bases and above the cylindrical feet.
The interior of the desk section is contrasting being in pale ‘book leaf’ matched figured Walnut and the whole interior is very well fitted and finished. There is a full width secret top drawer with an open area beneath. Below again are a bank of drawers with a double depth centre drawer and two stacked drawers on either side. On the outer sides of the stacked drawers are two secret spring loaded compartments accessed by pressing lower timber panels thus creating eight drawers and compartments in all. When the drop front is lowered it reveals the rectangular writing surface with inset gold tooled green leather.
The lower storage cabinet has a pair of hinged doors which when opened reveal two full width stacked drawers with gilt bronze drawer pull knobs and an open storage section above the drawers. The cabinet is complete with its original key.
Condition: Excellent for age. The leather may be replaced with a colour of your choice if required.
