About this piece

Welsh oak cwpwrdd deuddarn (two-part press cupboard), c.1750–1780. Upper section: carved cornice, pair of fielded doors with scalloped panel tops, fitted interior with two small drawers to one side. Lower section: pair of oak drawers with swan-neck brass handles over two further fielded doors, on shaped bracket feet.

Brass door knobs are later replacements; locks and brass escutcheons are in working order. Front timbers show honest age colour and patina; reverse shows plank construction typical of vernacular Welsh oak furniture, with natural surface staining.

Very good condition. Smaller proportions than most examples of this form, making it a practical and characterful storage piece for a kitchen, dining room or hallway.
