About this piece
Vintage near pair of Chinoiserie table lamps, finished in black with gilt decoration depicting figures, birds, foliage and garden scenes. Each lamp has a classically shaped urn form body on a stepped circular base, with black tole shades decorated with gilt Greek key style borders. The lamps are a near pair rather than an exact match, with slight differences in height, proportions, finials and painted scenes. The decorative scenes vary between the two, adding to their collected character while still allowing them to work beautifully together as bedside or console lamps. Vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, including rubbing, surface marks, craquelure and losses to the painted and gilt finishes. The tole shades also show visible age related wear and variation. Please refer to photographs. Sold as a near pair.
