A beautifully carved vintage Italian Savonarola style stool with a classic X-frame base, fluted rails, turned stretchers and carved acanthus leaf detailing. The frame is finished in a softly aged parcel gilt with a warm timber undertone. The seat retains its original damask upholstery in rich russet and antique gold, finished with decorative braid trim. The traditional woven fabric complements the Renaissance inspired design beautifully. Wear to the parcel gilt finish is consistent with age and use, adding to its overall appeal. Originally inspired by the folding Savonarola chairs of Renaissance Italy, stools of this form were used as elegant occasional seating in grand homes and continue to work just as well today. Perfect at the end of a bed, beneath a console table, in a dressing room, library or hallway, where they bring texture, warmth and a distinctly European feel to an interior.
