Two-part Venetian lacquered and polychrome-painted secretaire cabinet. The upper section is surmounted by a boldly carved and gilded cresting of acanthus scrolls and floral sprays centring a rocaille cartouche, above a serpentine broken-arch pediment painted en grisaille with a central lozenge-form reserve depicting putti and floral swags. A pair of arched, mirror-glazed doors, enriched with polychrome fleurs and foliate strapwork on a celadon ground, opens to a fitted interior with shaped pigeonholes, letter slots and small drawers retaining original lockplates. Interior surfaces are painted vermilion with scalloped and fretted detailing, while the inner faces of the doors are decorated with vasi di fiori and scrolling acanthus on a coral ground.
The fall-front secretaire section below features a serpentine tablier painted with floral sprays, revealing a fitted writing surface with small drawers. Beneath are three long serpentine-fronted drawers, each painted with polychrome floral bouquets within shaped cartouches on an ochre ground, and retaining original blackened drop handles and escutcheons. The cabinet is raised on carved cabriole feet.
