Details
This tulip shaped pewter pint mug has engraved on its base the name of the hotel it was originally from. The Hope and Anchor, Gloster Place, was in Camden Town in London. It opened in around 1798 and closed in 2013. The base also carries a British Antique Dealers Association sticker certifying its antiquity. There are a number of marks on the sides, but are too rubbed to be legible. These would have been excise marks and presumably a makers mark. Engraved on the front is the letter L in a florid script. This may have been the regular customers initial.
It stands 122 mm (4.5 inches) high and has a diameter of 95 mm (3.75 inches). The condition is very good. It would date from around 1830.
