About this piece
The intricate patterns created on this straw work marquetry box are incredible. Adorning the domed lid is a spray of flowers, and around the sides of the lid and the body of the box are very detailed angular patterns. The body of the box appears to be a thick cardboard. It measures 115 mm (4.5 inches) in width, is 63 mm (2.5 inches) in depth and stands 55 mm (2 1/8th inches) high. For its age and delicacy, it is in very good condition, but shows some minor signs of wear. It would date from around 1860.
