The Sanyu Glass Co are one of Japan's most recognised manufacturers of mid-century glass. They produced a large amount of beautiful pieces which were predominantly bound for the Western export market.
The company began producing glass in the early 1950s, becoming more prolific in the 1960s and 1970s. They produced a range of vases, centrepieces and art pieces.
This particular vase is part of the ‘Narumi Fantasy’ range. It has a folded scalloped edge. It displays the main identifiers of Sanyu / Narumi from the 1970s. Limited to a single colour palette of blue, magenta and yellow, the colours are allowed to mix to make greens, purples etc. It is heavily cased in clear glass and hot worked from a moulded base.
