This complete set of six 'Nore' dining chairs, designed by Norman Archibald for Nore Furniture, perfectly embodies that philosophy. As celebrated icons of Australian design, these chairs share the same distinguished pedigree as the entire 'Nore' collection, having been exhibited at the 1980 Cologne International Furniture Fair and displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria.
This is a masterclass in Australian craftsmanship — a striking symphony of robust timber and rich oxblood leather. Each frame is sculpted from solid Victorian Alpine Ash, its rustic yet refined lines and exposed timber dowel construction promising a lifetime of stability. The defining feature of these chairs are their distinctive seating components: separate, thick slings of genuine, saddle-stitched Howe leather forming both the seat and the backrest. The leather has developed a deep oxblood patina over four decades, a testament to its quality and history. Each piece is securely fastened to the timber frame with prominent studs, creating a visually striking and incredibly durable design.
This rare, complete set — comprising four side chairs and two commanding carvers, comes from a single owner who purchased them in 1978.
