A rare and elegant pair of Thonet Model A 910 F chairs, dating from the 1920s and verified authentic by Helen Thonet (Thonet GmbH, Germany).
Each chair features:
Solid timber frame with a beautifully curved backrest and spindled supports
Hand-woven cane seat in original condition.
Refined craftsmanship typical of early-20th-century Thonet production.
Purchased in the Paris markets in the 1980s when my mother ran an antique business. They’ve been used as occasional chairs in a bedroom and lounge but are now looking for a new home.
Condition is excellent for their age – structurally sound with lovely aged patina. A few cane strands have broken but can be glued back; they’re not noticeable and don’t affect appearance or use. The timber could be waxed or oiled for a richer tone, though I prefer the pale, natural look.
