This octagonal soup tureen, under dish and ladle are decorated with Minton's "Chinese Marine" blue and white transfer print. The decoration is extensive on the outside, and also appears on the inside of the tureen and the bowl of the ladle. The crisply moulded knop on the lid is represented as a basket of fruit, and the tureen rests on four lions paw feet. The tureen measures 363 mm (14.5 inches) in width, 252 mm (10 inches) in depth and stands 240 mm (9.5 inches) high, while the under dish is 435 mm (17.25 inches) wide, 317 mm (12.5 inches) deep and stands 32 mm (1.25 inches) high. The overall length of the ladle is 306 mm (12 inches) with the bowl measuring 100 mm (4 inches) in diameter and 46 mm (1.75 inches) deep. There was a chip to the edge of the under dish which measured 20 mm (.75 inch) by 12 mm (.5 inch) approximately, but has now been professionally repaired. There is also some discolouration to parts of the interior of the tureen, but overall it is in very good condition with the presence of the ladle a bonus as they usually go missing. It dates from the period 1825-30.
