Designed by Mario Bellini for B and B Italia and produced in Italy in 1980, the Le Stelle loveseat belongs to a period when Italian furniture shifted toward comfort led domestic design without abandoning architectural discipline. The piece is constructed as a continuous upholstered volume, with stitched paneling articulating its structure and scale. Broad arms, deep seating, and a low profile reflect Bellini’s focus on how furniture supports the body in real use. Substantial yet restrained, it carries the quiet authority of late twentieth century Italian design.
The original upholstery remains intact, with age wear concentrated to areas of contact, where the fabric has softened, thinned, and gently frayed through use rather than damage. The structure, volume, and characteristic comfort of the design remain strong, allowing the piece to be used as is or considered as a candidate for future reupholstery.
