French walnut side table of the Louis XIII period, circa 1700. The rectangular plank top in figured walnut with a moulded edge; the underside fitted with a single long frieze drawer to one side, retaining its original turned wooden knob handle.
Raised on four boldly turned bobbin (chapelet) legs, a form characteristic of the Louis XIII period and aligned with the Anglo-Flemish turning traditions of early 17th-century Northern European furniture. The legs are united by a matching H-form box stretcher in the same bobbin-turned profile, the intersections joined at square blocked and moulded corner posts surmounted by turned acorn or button finials. Feet of compressed ball form resting on small turned disc terminals.
The walnut shows a warm honey-amber tone with patination accumulated over three to four centuries of use.
Condition: Minor surface wear and natural checking to the top boards; signs of use consistent with age.
