The 3rd Liberty Loan campaign employed shock tactics with the use of graphic black and white images of casualties of war, presenting a very bleak picture of the war's progress to the Australian public. The subsequent campaign, the 4th Liberty Loan, is in stark contrast as it uses a wry humour to depict a money-pilfering woman, foiled by the patriotism of her male partner. It is unclear what the relationship is between the two characters in this poster, but the message is clear: the woman is depicted as a dumb blonde out for herself and the man as having done his civic duty by investing his spare change in the Liberty Loan.
