On his arrival in Paris in 1898, Cappiello approached two men, the actor Novelli and the composer Puccini, seeking to sketch their caricatures. The drawings were submitted to the Le Rire journal, and were so well received that, almost overnight, Cappiello became the favored artist of the Parisian theatre scene. This illustration is of the famous French playwright and comedian Felix Galipaux.
