This stunning 1970s dining setting by renowned South Australian designer Joe Rufenacht (JR Furniture) features his signature architectural bentwood frames and luxurious leather upholstery. Rufenacht, a Swiss-born physicist turned award-winning furniture maker, crafted pieces celebrated for their sculptural curves, exceptional comfort, and quality construction highly sought-after by collectors and MCM enthusiasts.
The Set Includes:
• Extension Dining Table – Beautiful warm-toned timber top with clean lines and solid construction. It extends for flexible entertaining. Shows general surface wear consistent with age ( mainly just missing finish in spot ), making it an excellent candidate for restoration/refinishing while presenting beautifully as-is.
• 4 Matching Dining Chairs – Iconic curved bentwood frames with rich brown leather upholstery (button-tufted seats and backs). These are in good vintage condition with solid frames and only one minor tear on the underside of a seat (typical wear area).
We also have another 4 matching-style chairs available to expand this to an 8-seater. These are a slightly different leather tone and show more wear, but the frames are solid with no major issues. Let us know if you’d like the full suite of 9 pieces (table + 8 chairs)—we’d be happy to discuss a package deal.
Sets like this rarely come to market, especially with the hard-to-find extension table. We had planned to restore this one for our own collection but are clearing space for new projects. A fantastic opportunity for someone who appreciates authentic Australian mid-century design!
