Introduced in 1951 as part of the groundbreaking Blå Eld (Blue Fire) and Vit Eld (White Fire) ranges, Hertha Bengtson’s asymmetrical and textured porcelain form broke entirely from the rigid symmetry of traditional dinnerware. Her use of contrasting glazes and fluid, organic shapes became a defining standard for mid-century Scandinavian modernist functional art. The 602 shape is consistently highlighted for breaking away from the traditional, rigid symmetry of pre-war dinnerware. The asymmetric handles of your coffee pot and cream jug, paired with the graphic contrast of the herringbone texture, are cited in design history texts as the moment coffee sets transitioned from chintz to moderne.
