Marked Georg Jensen Denmark on the base, this is the large Bloom tall bowl in polished stainless steel, with three soft lobes and a short cylindrical foot.
Helle Damkjær designed the Bloom collection for Georg Jensen, taking inspiration from the petals of cherry blossom, and her Bloom bowl can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Georg Jensen founded his silversmith workshop in Copenhagen in 1904, and the Danish house is known for working with leading designers. Stainless steel gives the sculptural look of its silver hollowware without the tarnish.
The form is fluid and organic, in the same tradition as the bowls Henning Koppel designed for the house in the mid twentieth century. The raised foot lifts it off the surface, so light and reflection play across the steel.
The polished finish reflects its surroundings, so the bowl picks up the colours of the table, the timber and the light around it. In a bright room it holds window light, and in the evening it catches candles.
Use it for fruit, bread rolls or nuts, or leave it empty as an object. Beside teak, the cool steel and warm timber make a good pairing.
To clean, wash by hand in warm water with mild soap and dry with a soft cloth. We recommend against the dishwasher, to protect the polish.
Excellent vintage condition, with the maker's mark clear on the base. Dimensions: 27.8 cm L x 20.6 cm W x 15.3 cm H. Weight: 689 g. The photos include close views of the base marking and polished surface.
