One-of-a-kind. This exact table cannot be made again.

This console table is built from southern blue gum felled on a working station property in Birregurra, Victoria. The timber is estimated to be 80–90 years old, possibly older, and spent decades as part of a stockyard before coming to my workshop in Melbourne.

I've made a lot of things from a lot of timber. I've never worked a piece quite like this one.

The grain is extraordinary; deep tiger striping running the full length, dark figuring that shifts from amber to near-black depending on the light, and sections of what looks almost like fiddleback silvering. Two coats of Feast Watson Scandinavian Teak Oil have brought it to a warm matte/satin finish that lets the timber speak without any plastic sheen.

The details:

— Surface height: 900mm (legs extend 40mm above the top for a signature detail)

— Top: 1200 × 360mm

— Leg panels: 940 × 240mm

— Stretcher: 1200 × 120mm, set low and flush with the back legs

— Timber thickness: 38mm throughout

— Finish: Feast Watson Scandinavian Teak Oil, 2 coats, matte/satin

How it's built:

Every edge that your hand touches has been rounded over with a 19mm router profile — the outer leg edges, the underside of the top, both edges of the stretcher. Nothing is sharp. Nothing is precious. It's made to be used.

Joints are dowelled and glued throughout. The low-set stretcher sits flush with the back of the legs, which keeps the front face clean and open while adding real structural rigidity.

In your home:

Works beautifully as a hallway entry table, a behind-sofa console, or a narrow statement piece in a living room or bedroom. The 360mm depth is generous enough to hold a lamp, a plant, and your keys, without eating into a corridor. The 900mm surface height sits slightly above a standard table, which gives it presence without looming.

Every piece leaves with a handwritten timber provenance card, telling the story of the timber before it became this piece of furniture.
