About this piece

A rare early example by Dutch–Australian artist Gerard Havekes (1925–2011), this c. 1960s set of three side tables departs from his well-known ceramic tile furniture. Each solid Blackwood top is inset with an individually hand-worked brass/copper plate—uniquely textured and composed—forming a sculptural commission.

Designed to be used together or independently. The tops and brass plates are in excellent condition and retain their original patina. The brass-finished metal frames show surface corrosion and wear consistent with age; those seeking pristine condition should note this.

Havekes’ work is highly collectable, and pieces of this medium from this early date are not known to have previously come to market.
