This is an authentic Tessa Executive lounge suite designed by legendary Australian designer Fred Lowen.
Unlike most standard T21 suites, this complete set features the highly desirable architectural T-leg / cross-base configuration, including a smooth-swivel armchair and a matching two-seater sofa. The executive model.
Draped in a stunning original dusty-mauve / vintage-rose velour fabric, the set retains all its incredible factory details that collectors hunt for.
The Backing: Retains the original signature black mesh backing panels featuring the repeating Tessa logo print.
The Tags: The original Tessa tags are still attached directly to the cushions.
The Extras: Includes all four original matching scatter pillows.
The Frames: The iconic bentwood timber frames have been freshly hand-restored and oiled, bringing the rich grain completely back to life.
Condition Notes:
Frames & Suspension: Timber frames are in gorgeous condition while maintaining their characteristic age; the hammock-style sling suspension and seating foam are exceptionally comfortable.
Upholstery & Flaws: The fabric is clean, vibrant, and presents breathtakingly from the front and sides. Armrest covers are removable and in excellent condition.
Please note: There are some minor cat surface claw marks on the rear fabric of the pieces (as pictured) but no punctures, which are largely concealed when placed against a wall or floating in an open-plan room.
The footrest has fabric wear in the form of a squiggly line. See pic for reference.

Design Story
Founded in the late 1960s in Melbourne by Fred Lowen, Tessa became famous for its sculptural timber furniture and luxurious leather lounges. At a time when Australian interiors were becoming more modern and open, the company introduced designs that felt both sophisticated and comfortable, perfectly suited to the local lifestyle.
Tessa’s furniture was heavily influenced by Danish modernism, particularly through its use of rich timber frames, organic curves, and high quality leather. Yet unlike some European modernist furniture that could feel formal or restrained, Tessa pieces had a softer and more relaxed character designed for everyday living.
The brand became especially well known for its modular leather sofas and reclining lounge chairs, many of which are still highly sought after today. Their combination of solid craftsmanship, deep comfort, and timeless silhouettes helped establish Tessa as a staple of Australian design during the 1970s and 1980s.
Today, vintage Tessa furniture remains extremely collectible across Australia, particularly among enthusiasts of mid century and space age interiors. Its pieces continue to feel contemporary decades later, reflecting a period when Australian furniture design confidently developed its own identity while drawing inspiration from the best of European modernism.
