A handsome English oak barrister’s bookcase, c.1920-1930, of sectional stacking construction in the Globe Wernicke style — also known as a lawyer’s bookcase or stacking bookcase. The three tiers each have a lift-and-slide glass front door running on internal timber tracks, allowing books to be accessed without removing the doors, and each section separates cleanly from the one below for ease of moving or reconfiguring.
The oak displays attractive quarter-sawn figure with pronounced ray fleck across the top, sides and door frames, finished to a warm, glowing patina that has developed with age. The case sits on a moulded plinth base with shaped tapered feet.
Presented in good condition with all three glass-front doors sliding smoothly and the sectional joints tight and true. A versatile and practical piece, equally suited to a study, library or home office, and a smart way to display books or collectables behind glass.
