About this piece
This Edwardian cast iron footman would have sat next to a fire, and supported a pot or kettle that needed to be kept hot. Footmen have four legs and trivets three. The top is decorated with two stylised hearts or shields. Stamped on the back is the registered number Rd 594254 and No 29. These Registered Numbers were issued to designers as a protection against unauthorised copying. This number was issued in around 1913. The number 29 would be the manufacturers design number. It stands 115 mm (4.5 inches) high, 250 mm (10 inches) wide, and has a depth of 136 mm (5.25 inches). It is in very good condition and dates from sometime after 1913.
