Details

A Danish Art Nouveau vase featuring a brown to red to yellow ground, mounted with a large stag beetle and lizard by manufacturer P. Ipsen.

After Peter Ipsen passed away in 1860, his wife, Lovise, took over the factory until their son, Bertel, took charge in 1865. From 1871, P. Ipsen became a big competitor in the Danish, and greater European market for Victorian, and then later, Art Nouveau ceramics. It was in 1871, that P. Ipsen began to mark their pieces 'Kjobenhavn', and then occasionally the word 'Eneret', meaning 'Exclusive', after copyright issues arose with their competitors.
