This cedar letter box was made for the United Ancient Order of Druids and has written on the front "Golden Sickle U.A.O.D. Letter Box". The UAOD split from the Ancient Order of Druids in 1833 and the first UAOD lodge in Australia was set up in Victoria in 1862. The box stands 188 mm high, is 310 mm wide and 180 mm deep. Although the letter slot has been rather roughly widened at some stage the box is in very good condition and has retained its original patina. C 1870.
