Antique Hungarian Bentwood side chair featuring turned spindle frame and hand caned medallion shaped back and round seat. The upright stiles of the backrest feature highly detailed turned wood balusters and finials on the top corners. The chair has been restored with new cane and joints tightened.
On the underside (front) of the chair seat is a makers mark of a ‘N’ enclosed in a circle with a stylised crown over the ‘N’. This is the mark for Harnisch & Co.
Using the same process as Thonet, Harnisch & Co. had a furniture factory in Neuschol (Beszterczebanya), Hungary and were privileged makers for the Imperial and Royal Austrian-Hungarian Empire between 1867 – 1918.
