Loro Blonyo or the “inseparable couple’ are a carved wooden pair of central Javanese matrimonial figures that were historically revered and centrally placed within traditional Javanese homes. The figures hark back to pre-Islamic culture on Java and later were incorporated into the syncretic ritual practices of the Javanese.
Loro Blonyo were once a prominent part of Javanese culture with sacred values and a significant role within traditional Javanese wedding ceremonies and embody the synchronicity between Hinduism, Buddhism, and the Muslim religions within Java.
This beautiful teak pair are from central Java and likely date to the early 1900s. Truly unique and irreplaceable.
