About this piece
Genuine 18th-century Georgian tilt-top table, handmade in England c. 1775. The wide top is crafted from a single, solid piece of imported Central American mahogany with well-figured grain and a mellow colour. The perimeter is scalloped and finished with a raised pie-crust moulding that is integral to the top, not later applied.
A well-turned central column rises from a short upright cylindrical base and supports a tri-form arrangement of shaped cabriole legs. The knees carry proud foliate carving, and the legs terminate in finely carved, slender ball-and-claw feet.
Intended for use as a tea, wine, centre, or occasional table, this piece presents as a refined example of the form with desirable one-piece top and detailed carving.
Condition: Excellent for age; previously conserved.
