About this piece
Description: An antique Australian cedar bookcase or display cabinet, featuring beautifully figured cedar timber, distinctive arched glazed doors and traditional Victorian styling. Australian cedar furniture is highly sought after for its rich colour, attractive grain and association with Australia's early furniture-making history.
The cabinet features a substantial rectangular top with a deep, beautifully moulded cornice, complemented by a striking figured cedar frieze beneath. The rich tones and natural grain of the Australian cedar give the piece considerable warmth and character.
Two full-length glazed doors feature graceful arched detailing to the upper glass panels, creating an attractive architectural feature. The central keyhole adds to the traditional appearance, while the generous glass panels provide an excellent view of the contents.
Internally, the cabinet is fitted with two shelves, providing three generous storage and display levels. The spacious interior makes it particularly suitable for displaying antique books, porcelain, glassware, silverware or treasured collections, while keeping everything neatly enclosed behind glass.
The cabinet stands on distinctive turned bun feet, providing an attractive decorative finish and complementing the substantial proportions of the piece. The gently rounded front corners, traditional mouldings and beautifully figured cedar further enhance its elegant Victorian design.
Australian cedar bookcases are increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of Australian antique furniture. This example offers an appealing combination of attractive timber, traditional craftsmanship and practical storage, making it a wonderful addition to a library, study, living room or dining room.
A beautiful piece of Australian antique furniture that offers both the character of our furniture-making heritage and the versatility of a practical display cabinet.
