Details

This is a vary rare find as it is one of the missing light fittings out of the Sydney Town Hall. some fittings were removed in the late 1960s or 70s because of the then huge size of T.V. cameras. Technology has changed and over the decades there have been restoration and refurbishments made to the Town Hall however many of the original light fittings are still missing. This is one of them and it is probably from the rear wall of the mezzanine gallery in the main hall. you can still see the ‘witness marks’ where the light fittings originally were mounted.

We also have the original round white cased glass shades for this light fitting.

The Sydney Town Hall was the first Public Building in New South Wales to have electric lights in 1888.

We are currently in possession of two other identical fittings which have been slightly modified and four similar however smaller fittings probably out of a corridor.

Could you buy light fittings out of any other major public building any where in the world? I doubt it and if you could the cost due to the provenance of history and heritage value would be astronomical.
