About this piece
Conceived in 1974 by acclaimed Swedish designer Åke Fribytter, this particular version of the famed ‘Kroken’ chair was produced on license by Melbourne based mid century furniture stalwart Danish Deluxe.
Fribytter was an active member of the Swedish functional design movement, which advocated simplicity and functionality in product design.
Throughout his career, Fribytter worked in a wide variety of fields, from furniture and appliance design to boat, aircraft and train design. He won numerous awards for his work, including the Lunning Prize in 1955 and the Prince Eugen Medal in 1981.
Today, Åke Fribytter’s designs are considered classics of Swedish design, characterised by their simplicity, functionality and timeless elegance.
