Details

A fine quality late 17th century oak court cupboard, circa 1680-1690. The top section with carved nulled decorative frieze, flanked by turned drop pendants.  Cabinet features a rich deep “oxblood” oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through years of care and cleaning. Also, the top section incorporates a central fixed panel with raised diamond shaped detail between two beautifully carved pin-hinged doors. The lower section of the cupboard incorporates two large doors with carved nulled panels. Constructed entirely with pegged mortise & tenon pegged joints. Internal shelf to base cupboard. Original iron butterfly hinges. Cabinet hot iron branded initials to side "PD". All internal heavy hand -hewn Oak planked construction in excellent condition.

The Court cupboard was considered an important and prestigious item of furniture from the 16th to 17th century. Used to store many of the most valuable & essential household utensils. This is one of the finest examples we have seen.
