Genuine antique 19th-century rectangular giltwood wall mirror with the original mercury plate mirror having been replaced with a glass mirror pane (circa 1930s).
The elegant rectangular frame is richly adorned with classical gilt gesso decoration, including acanthus leaf corners, trailing floral motifs, and a finely beaded inner moulding. The gilding has mellowed beautifully with age, resulting in a soft, warm patina that enhances its overall character. The mirror retains its original wooden back and shows signs of authentic age, with light foxing — a hallmark of genuine 19th century production.
This type of mirror would likely have originated in England or be locally made in the post 1860s and is ideal for adding sophistication to an entrance hall, above a fireplace, or in a refined dressing area.
Condition: Average antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Minor chips and cracking to the frame, particularly in the top right-hand corner. Due to age, there are minor issue with the to the gesso in areas, consistent with the age of the piece.
