An exceptional early Victorian adjustable pole screen dating to circa 1840, featuring a hand-painted panel attributed to Julia Minton of Stoke-on-Trent.
Beautifully crafted, the decorative screen depicts a charming pastoral scene with cows, horse and goat, framed within an ornate gilt surround.
Raised on a finely turned timber column with tripod base, this elegant piece was traditionally positioned beside a fireplace to shield occupants from direct heat - particularly women who wore thick make-up. Today, it serves as a rare and highly decorative accent for curated interiors, adding history, artistry and sculptural presence.
The telescopic pole allows the screen to be adjusted in height, combining practical ingenuity with refined 19th-century craftsmanship.
