English mid-Victorian mirror-back credenza in walnut, circa 1860, with a strong French Louis XV Rococo influence and a shaped Carrara white marble top.
The tall solid walnut show timber frame retains its original mirrored plate and features a crest carving of stylised foliage formed in French C-scrolls. At the base of the mirror frame, a triangular arrangement of fully saw-pierced carving presents flowing C- and S-scroll leaves.
The Carrara marble top is serpentine at each end and finished with a shaped edge moulding.
The lower cabinet is executed in well-figured walnut of warm honey colour. It comprises three storage compartments with mirror-panelled doors, each framed by raised mouldings and decorative crest carvings. The smaller end cupboards are angled; the central cupboard is larger. All cupboards include an internal shelf. Flanking the doors are large rounded engaged pilasters with their own raised decorative mouldings.
Condition: Excellent, with original polish and a good patina.
