Details

Handmade in the late 18th century (about 1775), this George III Pembroke table is a serpentine-form example with drop leaves that open to a distinctive butterfly plan. Constructed from selected, well-figured imported Honduran mahogany, the top is feature-veneered with a cross-banded central oval in flame mahogany. The perimeter of the top and the drawer surrounds are cross banded, complemented by frieze fruitwood-coloured inlays.

A frieze drawer is fitted to one end, with a corresponding faux drawer at the other; the original brass drawer pulls are retained. Squared, downward-tapered legs terminate in applied spade feet in the Thomas Sheraton manner.

Butterfly-shaped leaves are uncommon due to the additional work involved, and this example presents refined veneering and inlay throughout.

Condition: In as-found, untouched aged condition and has not been restored. Professional conservation or sympathetic restoration can be arranged if required.
