English George III period oak drop-front bureau bookcase, 18th century.
The upper bookcase features engaged corner columns with brass detail at top and bottom, and a pair of doors on brass H-hinges with shaped fielded panels. Inside is a well-fitted arrangement of shaped dividers and two small candle storage drawers.
The lower bureau section has a drop-front with a baize-lined writing surface and a well-fitted shaped interior including secret drawers. Below sit three full-width drawers with brass pulls and keyhole escutcheons. The whole stands on straight bracket feet.
Condition: Excellent, with professional refurbishment in the 1990s; minor conservation and general refurbishment noted.
Provenance: By repute previously owned by billionaire Robert Homes a’ Court of the Bell Resources Group and his wife Janet.
