This flower-themed lottery drawing shows a man at centre raising his gardening tool as he admires a flower form composed of lottery tickets, a visual conceit suggesting leisure and time to garden.
The French government promoted the nationwide lottery for many years, commissioning Edgar Derouet for numerous posters during the 1930s. Derouet realised works either independently or with collaborators. This example is attributed to his collaboration with Charles Lesacq, who worked with Derouet from 1938 to 1940.
