The sapphire is calculated at 1.92 carat and has been assessed by a gemologist as changing from fine blue in daylight-equivalent light to fine purple in incandescent light, described as bright and slightly included. It is framed by twelve old mine cut diamonds with an estimated total weight of 1.26 carats, graded G–I colour and VS–SI clarity.
Inside the shank is a rubbed, partially illegible mark, likely affected by an old resize. The maker and origin are unknown; the ring is likely European and dates to around 1910.
