About this piece
Oval miniature portrait on ivory depicting a lady holding a small miniature in her right hand, likely early 18th century. The work is signed ‘L David’; the painter’s origin remains unconfirmed, though the style appears Austrian or French.
Housed in an elaborate 19th-century vulcanite/ebonite frame, likely a later addition from the second half of the 19th century. The reverse retains its painted steel backing and a bale for wall hanging.
Dimensions: 22.5 cm H x 17 cm W
