Porcelain vase in the Greek Revival taste, attributed to the English maker Samuel Alcock & Co. The body features transfer-printed neoclassical panels on both sides, each depicting a classical figure in a horse-drawn chariot. The transfers are hand-finished to give the impression of fully hand-painted decoration. An ornate border encircles the rim and continues onto each of the two handles. Substantial gilding accents the tangerine ground.
The piece is unmarked. Comparable designs and examples have been firmly attributed to Samuel Alcock & Co, who operated between 1828 and 1859, and this example is believed to be one of the firm’s designs.
Condition: Very good antique condition with no chips or cracks. Wear to the gilding commensurate with age and use.
