Details
The fluted body of this very pretty sugar caster is decorated with embossed ribbons and swags of roses and stands on an embossed circular foot. The domed lid also features fluting and is topped with a pineapple. The French stamped mark of Minerva's head with the number 2 under her chin shows that it is made in 800 silver. The makers mark is for Elisa Egalon, who operated from 14 Rue Rambuteau in Paris. It consists of two capital E's seperated by a corporal's stripe, known in French as un galon de caporal, and obviously a pun on her surname. It stands 190 mm (7 1/8th inches) high, has a diameter of 65 mm (2.5 inches) and weighs 174 gms (5 troy ounces). It is in very good condition and would date from around 1900.
