This is a lovely high quality genuine antique English early 1800s Georgian Regency period 1811 - 1820 Rosewood Side Table which also may be used as a Writing Table.
Internally the case is constructed from heavy solid English Oak. The drawers are fully Mahogany lined and the shaped and carved supports and the cross stretcher are crafted from solid Rosewood both of which were prestigious imported Central American timbers. The top frieze sections and the base and feet are finished in selected decoratively figured Rosewood now mellowed to a lovely mid honey colour.
Being a top quality piece and originally made for a home with substantial sized rooms this piece is finished on all sides so it can free stand in a room without having to go against a wall.
The top and frieze sections are basically rectangular with rounded corners. At the front he frieze has a pair of side by side flush fitting drawers with a narrow drawer between. The bottom of the frieze has a fine turned bead molding. The top section is supported by end vertical solid Rosewood carved embellished stylised Tulips which sit on small horizontal bases and are connected by a full width turned stretcher.. From the front and rear of the bases are squared in profile French influence ‘S’ shaped scrolled legs which house the original all brass castor assemblies beneath.
Condition: Near Excellent - minor wear and repair to the bottoms of the feet due to wear by the castors.
