Rare English William IV period combination piece comprising a chiffonier incorporating a cylinder writing desk, 1830 to 1837. Crafted from heavy, dense Cuban mahogany.
The upper section features a pointed architectural backboard with opposed foliate carving and a full-width gallery shelf supported by carved double C-scrolls in the French Louis manner.
A cantilevered frieze section conceals the cylinder desk. When opened, it reveals a pull-out slide with an inset leather writing surface detailed with blind and gold tooling. The interior provides a row of pigeonholes above four side-by-side drawers with veneered fronts.
The base includes a pair of side-by-side drawers above two graduated full-width drawers. All drawers have shaped perimeter moulding and retain original brass locks and turned drawer pull knobs. Flanking the drawers are full-height French S-shaped scrolled, cabriole-like engaged pilasters carved on three sides. The whole stands on a rectangular plinth base.
Condition: Excellent, virtually original and complete, with an original key.
