Campa was an industrial designer by training who later practised dental surgery before gradually dedicating himself to sculpture. His first works in clay were figurative; guided by a passion for jazz, he sought to translate musical improvisation into abstract form. He moved within circles that included Gérard Schneider, Étienne Martin, Jean Villeri, René Char, André Verdet and Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry, whose support helped shape his practice. Known for his cast aluminium works, his sculptures feature in a number of public collections.
