Set of six original 1930s Jacob Kjaer dining chairs in solid oak with the original cream leather studded seats. Each chair is constructed with square-section legs and H-stretcher supports, expressing the restrained, functional clarity associated with Kjær’s work.
Jacob Kjær (1896–1957) was a Danish furniture designer and cabinetmaker who trained in Berlin and Paris and exhibited at the Barcelona World Exhibition in 1929. Influenced by classical English forms, his designs are defined by simple, clean lines interpreted in a modern idiom. Kjær worked with high-grade materials and, unusually for the time, often crafted the pieces himself. He is considered one of the finest Danish designers and played a significant role in advancing the reputation of the Danish furniture industry. It is likely that this set was crafted by Kjær himself.
