Details
This very good quality eighteen piece hand painted porcelain dessert service by William Brownfield of Cobridge in Staffordshire consists of two high comports, four low comports and twelve plates.
Each piece is decorated with a hand painted semi-circular spray of flowers on an elegant pale celadon green ground, and finished off with a simple run of gilding to the edges. The two high comports feature more sprays to the foot and the underneath of the top. The two high cake stands, or comports, stand 115 mm (4.5 inches) high and have a diameter of 235 mm (9.25 inches), whist the four low comports each stand 48 mm (1 7/8ths inches) high and have a diameter of 235 mm (9.25 inches). The twelve plates measure 225 mm (9 7/8ths inches) in diameter and stand 20 mm (.75 of an inch) high.
The pattern number is 793 and this pattern was introduced in 1874. There are a number of pieces that carry the impressed mark Brownfield and most pieces also carry the pattern number. Overall it is in very good condition with some very, very minor signs of use.
