About this piece
Ikat is an ancient textile tradition practised across Southeast Asia, Central Asia and other parts of the world. The name comes from the Malay-Indonesian word mengikat, meaning “to tie or bind,” referring to the traditional technique of tying and resist-dyeing threads before weaving. This creates Ikat’s distinctive, slightly blurred patterns.
