  This is a rare and most attractive and decorative Chair from the antique English Georgian 1811 - 1820 classic Regency period. Furniture designs at this time were influenced by people returning after ‘the grand tour of the antiquities’ of Egypt Greece Italy and Crete etc who returned to England inspired by design influences from the ‘old world’. One particular design influence was of ‘cross framed’ chairs referred to as Savonarola Chairs.

  This one is made in quality Mahogany and has been Ebonised. It shows classic ‘old world’ influences with the finely carved decoration. The shaped back panel is finely reeded as are the curved legs which terminate in well carved animal paw feet. The hand grips are folate carved around a central geometric designed circle. A similar floral and petalated carved circle is positioned in the centre of the front curved seat rail and this circle has wo pair of wings on either side and between the wings are stylised Anthemium .

  Ebonised furniture was popular during the Regency period and the carved embellishments were often gilded however this chair appears never to have gilt highlights.

  It is complete with its original horse hair upholstery ant there is evidence that it was once covered in a tan coloured leather with a gold tooled darker coloured leather trim. it now just requires a simple recover in a fabric to taste.

  Condition: Virtually original and structurally very sound.
